Actually, the Botolv is my 3rd great-grandfather's name. It is a confusion of that name that resulted in my last name being Butler. I have several generations of ancestors on the Vange, Stadheim, Hønsi, Undi, and other farms.
I understand that historically the farms have remained the property of one of the descendants of the original owners. Is this also true of the summer and spring farms or are these spring and summer farms more like communal property? Has there been many changes in use? For example, the Hang farm has been used by the Vange farm. Has this always been the case?
Also, I have some ancestors from Leikanger by the name of Blystakk. You mentioned that Blystakk was a Norwegian noble family. Could you tell me anything more about this noble family? Did they have estates like those in England, Spain, or France? Did the family have knights with castles or were they simply large farm owners?
I appreciate your answers as there is not much Norwegian information available in English print.
