Comment: Thank you for your additional information. The støl at Hillerane was used until 1941 or 1942. As you say, the farmers of Åse moved their cattle back to Hillerane in mid September partly due to the risk of snowfall.
In spring time, however, the major concern was whether the pastures of Åsdalen were ready. The pastures of Hillerane were ready earlier in the summer in spite of the greater altitude. Hillerane is closer to the fjord and is situated in a warm slope towards the evening sun. When there was enough grass in Åsdalen for the cows, normally late June, they moved their cattle across the Tindefarangen mountain. (Source: Jenny Hønsi b. Aase)
